First of all, did you know that the different marshmallow shapes included in a box of Lucky Charms (TM) are constantly changing! Over the years that have been many different shapes included in this sweet cereal. So, we’ve designed this pack to include 11 different shapes that you might find in your box of cereal…including the NEW Magical Unicorn marshmallow shape! And in case you are wondering, we purchased a BULK bag of Lucky Charms (TM) cereal from Walmart and it included 8 different shapes, all of which are included on the various activities below.

Hands-On Learning with Lucky Charms (TM)

Students who are working on a variety of math skills will enjoy this lucky activity pack. Math skills covered include:

  • Counting
  • Sorting
  • Adding
  • Framing
  • Graphing
  • Number Words
  • Patterns

Lucky Charm 10 Frames

Students spin and frame delicious mini-marshmallows until they have filled a ten frame board with colorful charms! Pair this gameboard with a spinner, and if desired a dice to add a little more difficulty. Roll the die, then spin the spinner to see how many of each shape to add to the 10 frame. How many spins will it take to fill the frame?

Sorting & Classifying with Lucky Charms (TM)

This Lucky Charm (TM) sorting mat is perfect for the younger crowd! The mat includes 11 different pictures for students to sort the tasty marshmallows by design. This is a simple way to include your younger students while building key sorting and classifying skills.

Seek & Find Fine Motor Math Activity Mat

Another great activity for younger students is our seek and find shape mat! This mat is filled with a TON of marshmallow fun! Your students can count how many of each design they can find. Alternatively, you can use the mat as a match and cover set where students can place the correct marshmallows on the board. This will build some key fine motor skills with your preschoolers.

Counting & Writing Numbers

This simple worksheet will have your students counting the marshmallows in each cereal bowl, then writing the number in the lines provided. This sheet can be laminated for reuse or printed out for each kiddo. This activity would make a great follow up to the learning center mats above.

Tally Marks & Addition with Lucky Charms (TM)

Students use their SCOOP of Lucky Charms (TM) to report and tally the number of marshmallows they found. Then, students use those numbers to solve simple addition problems represented by symbols. This is a handy activity for teaching children that we can represent numbers in various ways (tally marks, symbols).

Teaching Patterns & Sequencing with Lucky Charms (TM)

Another fun activity for young students is learning to recognize and repeat patterns. We’ve included a variety of pattern sequences in this set, including ABAB, AABB, AAABBB, ABCABC, and ABCD. Each pattern activity card will challenge your student to identify and continue the marshmallow sequence.

Older students will have fun solving these pattern worksheets by placing the correct marshmallow shape to complete the sequence. Students could even color or draw in the shapes as well. This entire math activity pack is very versatile to your teaching needs.

Number Words & Ten Frame Minibook

For your older preschool students, you’ll LOVE this printable minibook. Students will work on coloring, handwriting, number words, and ten frames. You might even break this set up and have students GLUE on their marshmallows to add a 3-D element to their mini-book. Number words are included as a word bank on the first page so your students can work independently.

Graphing with Lucky Charms

Graphing with Lucky Charms (TM) is a classroom favorite for teachers during St. Patrick’s Day! We’ve included two different printable graphs you can use, one in color and one in black and white. Each can be used with any box of Lucky Charms (TM) so that your students can practice sorting and graphing with visual representations.

If you are using this project in a standard classroom setting, you might want to have your kiddos GLUE the charms to the graph and display the results on a classroom bulletin board. Then, take turns sharing and reporting the results. Do students notice any common patterns for each of the shapes found?

Our Lucky Math Activity Pack is filled with a huge variety of hands-on fun for students of multiple ages and abilities. This is a great set to build St. Patrick’s Day math learning centers, and holiday fun. Your students will have a blast with this adorable set, they won’t even know they are learning!

With 18 pages of learning, this set is super low-prep, and available in an instant download. You can find this pack, and more in our Teachers Pay Teachers store! Click here

Christmas Playdough Mats

Free Christmas Playdough Mats

There is just something so fun about homeschooling during the holiday season! With all the fun Christmas activities, games, and crafts, the classroom is always filled with delicious smells and festive projects. One of my favorite activities is to work in some hands-on learning with Christmas playdough mats. Today, I’ve got a free set of Christmas Cookie Play Dough Mats that you can use with scented playdough (gingerbread playdough recipe here), mini-erasers, candy canes, or even cookies.

Gingerbread Man Play Dough Mat

The first way you can use these free Christmas Playdough Mats is with Gingerbread Play Dough and a Gingerbread Man cookie cutter. This set of cookie cutters provides you with multiple sizes for even more learning fun! Your students will LOVE to roll and cut out their own gingerbread cookies. Best of all, the play dough will smell just like gingerbread for some added sensory fun!

Christmas Cookie Play Dough Mats

Another way to use these playdough mats is with Christmas themed erasers! This set includes sturdy and adorable erasers featuring a snowman, present, penguin, Christmas tree, stocking, Santa, snowflake, and of course a Gingerbread Man. This set comes with 100 erasers so we’ll be using them over and over with our Christmas Activities. They are also great for counting, addition, subtraction, and learning about patterns.

Christmas Cookie

If you’d rather not deal with the playdough mess, or don’t have erasers at hand, you can still use this cookie mat by cutting out your own little gingerbread men from brown construction paper. I just cut these by hand, and they ended up a little too large for the tray. So, I made a set of printable Gingerbread Men Templates for your kiddos to decorate and cut-out. You can use these as a template and cut them from construction paper, or have children decorate and color them in. See below for printing instructions.

Print these mats on cardstock and place inside a page protector for reuse.

Christmas Tree Math Mat: Addition Learning Games

Free Christmas Math Printables

Once your preschool student has a good handle on their numbers, you might try working on simple addition facts. Addition is easily taught using objects or manipulatives to visually represent numbers. We’ve created a set of fun addition cards your student can use to visually represent the solution to a variety of addition problems to 15. Christmas break is coming up and this Christmas math pack is the perfect way to add some hands-on learning over the holiday.

While this set includes a HUGE varitey of adition cards with solutions up to 15. However, if this is your preschool students first introduction to addition, you might start by presenting the simplest equations first. Then, once your student has the concept down, you can add in more difficult addition cards.

Christmas Math Activity Mat

The Christmas Tree Addition worksheet can be used with various objects, such as play dough, pom-poms, and even peppermint candies. This pack includes one Christmas Tree mat, and a total of 96 math cards. There are four math equations per sheet, however, you can print multiple pages per sheet if you’d like smaller addition cards. We recommend printing on cardstock or laminating for durability.

Christmas Math Worksheet

You can introduce the concept of addition by first showing your child how to add the right amount of ornaments to the tree. So if you had an addition card that read 6 + 1, then you would first instruct the child to place 6 ornaments on the tree. Next, you instruct the child to add 1 more to the tree. Finally, have your student count up all the ornaments that have been placed on the tree and orally solve the equation, “6+1=7.” You might even have your student write the equations on a separate sheet of paper.

Number Sense Worksheets & Games

Free Number Sense Math Mats

Learning about numbers seems simple enough, doesn’t it? You simply teach children number recognition, and understanding of number value and you’re done, right? Well, maybe not…there are many different ways children can learn about numbers, with different ways to present them. We’ve got a fun hands-on learning activity that is sure to engage your early mathematicians!

What is Number Sense?

Number sense is basically the understanding of numbers and how they relate to each other. For preschoolers, learning about number sense means building the necessary skills to understand that numbers can be represented by many different ways. For example, we can represent numbers with dots (like on a dice), tall marks, numerals, number words, ten frames, and even blocks.

Number Sense Games

We have a great variety of Number Preschool Printables available to introduce your student to numbers. However, if your student already has a good understanding of the basics, then learning about different ways to represent numbers is a great expansion. And the best way to learn a new math concept is with a math game!

Monster Number Mats

Introduce this free number sense game to your students as a set of Hungry Number Monsters. Each monster wants to eat the correct number, so your job is to sort the numbers to each monster mat. All of the numbers are represented in different ways! You might have to count out the dots, or the tally marks to identify which number is represented.

Number Sense for Preschoolers

You might start your younger students off with only a couple of the number mats, or a reduced amount of the number cards. You can build and add more in as your student shows mastery. That way you avoid unnecessary frustration by unintentionally overwhelming your student. It is better to go slow and build confidence and a love of learning.

Free Number Sense Printables

Because these monster number mats are FULL-COLOR you’ll want to be sure to print on cardstock and laminate for durability. Additionally, you could use a page protector to keep the mat clean. That way, you can use these again with playdough, or even Halloween candy. (Hint: We have a fun Candy Corn Monster Game Here) Additionally, you can store all of the sorting cards in small task card boxes (as shown above) or in a small plastic bag, with the game mats in a file folder.

Symmetry Worksheets

These free symmetry math worksheets are great for building logic and spatial skills.

Learning about symmetry is something even students as young as preschool can begin to accomplish. There are already so many examples of symmetrical design in the creation around us, that students can easily pick up on this idea once you give it a name…Symmetry!

If this is your student’s first introduction to symmetry worksheets, we recommend starting with the smallest of tasks, such as tracing the reflection of a picture over a line of symmetry. We have some fantastic free butterfly symmetry worksheets available to start.

Also, be sure to check out our Pattern Block Symmetry Mats, as they build upon the symmetry skills using shaped blocks to reflect pictures over a line of symmetry.

For students who have already mastered a foundational understanding of symmetry, you can try these free symmetry grids. With these free symmetry pattern pictures, students will not need to draw the line of symmetry. However, they will be reflecting the picture across the line.

The symmetry grid pictures are available in a variety of differnt ability levels. Some include only three differently colored squares. Some include more colors, or even triangles.

We recommend starting with the easiest of the grids first, and working your way up to the harder levels. The triangles can be tricky to reflect and you might need to save those activity pages for when your student is ready.

We included them here more for extra challenge, not so much that preschoolers should be expected to do them. (Print them up for an older sibling, because these are tons of fun and students love these reflection challenges.

Pattern Block Symmetry Mats

I don’t know about you, but I think preschool math should involve a plethora of hands-on activities! Not only does it make the homeschool day run smoother, but students will be more engaged in the activity which is great for knowledge retention.

Young preschool students can be introduced to mathematical concepts and ideas using a variety of math manipulatives. These manipulatives don’t have to cost a fortune either! For example, counters can be made from mini-erasers, and you can make your own base-10 blocks with dried beans.

Another inexpesive product are pattern blocks. Not only do you get 250 pieces in your average set, but there are a variety of colors and shapes that can be used for a multitude of math activities.

Which, if you are looking for structured pattern block learning, we’ve specifically developed 8 different learning activities you can use with pattern block pictures in our Pattern Block Activity Bundle.

Free Symmetry Printables:

Students who have mastered basic pattern block patterns can try their hand at reflecting an image across a line of symmetry. These activity mats are a bit more difficult, and not all of your preschool students will be able to grasp this concept. However, because many students will be able to understand this important skill, it is still a great activity to include with your math learning centers.
