Chocolate Scented Hot Cocoa Playdough

Homemade Hot Chocolate Playdough is the perfect distraction when itā€™s too chilly for outdoors or just because you want to give the kids something new and fun to keep them busy for a bit. We used a few simple household ingredients combined with my favorite basic playdough recipe to create it. While I wouldnā€™t recommend encouraging them to eat this ( thatā€™s a lot of salt and flour!) it is a totally taste safe recipe for your little ones that canā€™t resist putting it in their mouth so itā€™s once less thing to worry about!

You will need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2 cups of water
  • 3 Tablespoons coconut oil
  • Ā½ cup baking cocoa
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Directions:

Stir all ingredients in a bowl over medium heat.

Continue stirring frequently until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the pan and clump together, it should still be slightly sticky but not wet.

Remove from heat and put the dough onto a smooth surface that has been covered in a light dusting of flour.

Allow it to cool until you can touch it with your bare hands.

Now knead for 3-5 minutes, this is where the play dough magic really starts to happen!

Be sure and set out plenty of cookie cutters, rollers, real or fake marshmallows, play cups, etcā€¦ Here, I cut up white craft foam for marshmallows so we would use it again and again.

Press it into play cups for a dramatic play hot cocoa barā€¦

Roll it out and cut out chocolate cookiesā€¦

Stamp letters and numbers into it to practice phonological awarenessā€¦
