They say you arenāt supposed to play with your food but what about when your food is also part of helping to achieve some important skills? This easy 3-ingredient Edible Ice Cream Playdough is a great addition to dramatic play, a sensory bin, used as a math manipulative, for writing letters in, and to strengthen fine motor skills.
Frosting Playdough Recipe
Make an entire ice cream shops worth of āflavorsā and scoop up some fun with your little one, and maybe remind them that ts good for a taste here and there but too much might lead to a belly ache!
You will need:
- 2 cups powdered sugarĀ
- 1 cup white frosting
- Food coloring
Directions:
Combine powdered sugar and frosting in a large bowl and stir until you get as much mixed as you can. If you prefer your play dough to be not so sweet use cornstarch in place of powdered sugar.
Next, you will need to get in their a little bit and mix it up with your hands. If dough is still too sticky work in a bit more powdered sugar until the mixture is soft, pliable, and fluffy.
Once your dough is well mixed add a few drops of whatever food coloring you want to use to create your āflavorsā and knead it into the dough until mixed.Ā
You could also purchase individual cans of each frosting flavor you would like to have available but this is an easy and less expensive way to do it.
We stored ours in the refrigerator in the icing can and it lasted for weeks.
Add some fun bowls, spoons, and of course an ice cream scoop (picked on up from Dollar Tree) for a fun dramatic play time.
But your edible ice cream playdough can be used for all sorts of things, roll it flat and have your child use a craft stick to write letters and numbers.
